Nothing on the first TT$850,000, then 3% on the next 400,000, 5% on the next 500,000 and 7.5% above 1.75 million. A TT$1.5 million home costs TT$24,500. First-time homeowners pay nothing up to TT$2 million.
Who counts as a first-time homeowner?
Someone who has never owned residential property. On a joint purchase, every buyer must qualify or the exemption falls back to TT$850,000. The exemption covers a house or house and land, not land alone, and needs an application to the Board of Inland Revenue.
Is land taxed the same way?
